Literature Text

Today I worked overtime, no problem,
I admit to being a Workaholic.
I keep food on the table,
My family appreciates that, I’m sure,
And if they don’t, they should.
My life’s good, so is theirs.

I hop in my new car,
Work for today is almost over.
Called my wife, “be home soon.”
Told her I had a meeting.
Less than a mile from home.
I turned left instead of right.

The meetings close, I didn’t lie.
I don’t lie to my wife.
But I sometimes bend the truth.
I pull up to a house,
My son’s friend lives next door.
I’m not meeting them today, though.

I sneak around to the back.
The door’s not open, window is,
People always forget about the window.
I draw my wife’s missing knife.
It’s late, they’re asleep by now.
Go to the kid’s room first.

I get no sense of satisfaction,
I want to make that clear.
I get no happiness from this,
Not sure why I do it…
I just get the urge sometimes,
I can’t control it, I’ve tried.

“The meetings over, I’m coming home.”
She left out dinner for me.
She’s a good cook, the best.
That’s a rare skill these days.
I kiss my sons sleeping head,
Then lied next to my wife.
You know those six word story dealies? Well, I saw six lined stories each line containing six words, so I decided to make a Story with six parts (stanzas?), with each part containing six lines, with each line containing words. Which makes a neat little two-hundred and sixteen word story...or poem...what does this count as?
